Mama Dolores is a hidden Mediterranean gem in the heart of Bangkok

Looking for a hidden gem in Bangkok that offers delicious Mediterranean cuisine? Look no further than Mama Dolores. Tucked away in Chong Nonsi, Mama Dolores is a tranquil garden oasis that provides a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Just step inside, and you’ll find yourself surrounded by lush tropical greenery, lending the restaurant a charming and laid-back Mediterranean vibe. But it’s not just the atmosphere that draws locals and tourists alike; Mama Dolores also boasts an impressive menu of mouth-watering dishes that are sure to satisfy any craving.

In this post, I’ll be sharing my recent experience at lunch, highlighting their famous Falafel Set and what makes it so special. Plus, I’ll be sharing some other must-try dishes that you should absolutely try on your next visit. Let’s dive in!

The Falafel Set #

During my recent lunch visit, I opted for the Falafel set. The dish came with a serving of six perfectly crispy falafel balls, a side of outstandingly creamy hummus dip, a basket of fresh bread, and a refreshing mint tea. Each bite was bursting with flavor, and the hummus dip was so delicious that I could have eaten it with a spoon!

Luscious Garden Setting #

One of the highlights of is the outdoor garden setting. Surrounded by tropical greenery, the restaurant has a Mediterranean vibe that transports you to another part of the world. Sitting in the garden while enjoying a delicious meal is a true sensory experience.

If time permits, they have a fantastic sangria which complements the meals well. Sharing a carafe of this incredible cocktail while relaxing with friends. Spending the early afternoon slowly devouring food and laying back on their oversized chairs with the stereotypical Thai triangle cushions and catching up with old and new friends.

… And if time (or work) does not allow, they have a fantastic (hot) mint tea, which I ruin with ice, to make a nice refreshing ice tea to help digest the copious amount of food.

What I liked: #

  • Ambience and relaxed eating style. Super friendly staff make you feel like family.
  • The food is incredible. Many of the dishes are ’the best’ of their kind, not only in Bangkok, but anywhere in the world (that I have visited at least)
  • All of this, hidden just behind Lumpini Park in the city and still incredibly well priced (especially with the lunch discount!)

Great Value for Money #

Mama Dolores doesn’t only offer great food and ambience, but also unbeatable value for money. During lunchtime, offer a 20% discount on meals, making it one of my favourite lunch spots in the city. And, as an occasional extra bonus, They often give out free bread to take home late in the afternoon.

If you’re visiting Mama Dolores for dinner, I highly recommend trying the lamb shanks, and just about any entrΓ©e on the menu. I had it during a previous visit and adored it. Each bite was so tender and flavourful that I haven’t been able to go a month without coming back for more!
